What do PINE BARK BEETLES eat that cause them to MAKE SOUNDS THAT CONTROL THEIR OWN BEHAVIOUR.

I saw a story online from USAToday about experiments using sounds made by pine bark beetles to control their behavior.

This sounds like something the military would probably use to try to control people.In fact I wouldn't be a bit surprised to hear that they already have this kind of technology in their arsenal.

It seems these sounds cause the pine bark beatles to be aggressive toward one another.Some sounds when applified greatly cause male beetles having intercourse with a female to stop what he's doing and kill the female.Talk about spousal abuse.This sounds downright homidial for these beetles.

Of course that's the idea behind this research.To control the pine bark beetle which has been destroying millions of acres of pine trees ,in Arizona,texas,wyoming,and Montana.

I understand that a judge has declared the Grizzlie bears in these areas in danger of dying out as a species because of the pine bark beetles stripping the pine trees of bark ,and killing the trees.thus removing the Grizzily bears food supply ,namely pine nuts that pine trees produce as a pre-winter food for the bears to live through the winter months.

If,this technique can be utilized somehow in a manner that is inexpensive and widely available

it just might be what is needed to control the pine tree beetle.Another way might be to introduce a natural enemy of the pine tree beetle.Maybe a species of bird that eats beetles by boring holes into the pine tree to get to the beetles.

All states with pine trees, seem to have the very same problem.Alaska is warming up,which seems to be increasing the pine tree beetles range.Canada has the same problem the united states has.

So,what will these bears turn to in order to get the food they need it for their hibernation or just as a regular part of their diet ?

Maybe they won't need to hybernate,if the winter weather is not cold enough to prevent the bears from feeding on vegitation.

Another question I have is the fact that bears eat grubs under fallen logs.Why can't they eat the pine tree beetles that live on the bark of the pine trees?
